The social media situation in Japan
MAU (monthly active users) ranking was announced in March 2018. MAU is measured by counting the number of unique users during a specific measurement period. According to App Ape Lab (2018), American ranking constituted by Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and Printeret. On the over hand, Twitter is ranked first, followed by Facebook, Instagram, Google+, and Ameba which born in Japan.
Social media is used by many people all over the world, but why does it make a big difference? I guess the answer is in their different nationalities. Because Japanese people tend to post something on SNS anonymously, they prefer Twitter to Facebook which needs to use their real name.
MAU of Facebook was two billion in 2017 so that Facebook is still the most popular social media in the world. However, some people say that Facebook is declining now because of introducing new social media, such as Snapchat and Instagram. But still, Facebook is the world's largest social media.

Yurika, Your blogs are great! I would simply like to add that it seems that social media has been becoming more and more visual since its inception. Twitter, for example, is named for a verbal "tweet" with its famous 140 character limit. These were letters forming words and communicating via language. Currently, it seems social media, even Twitter, utilizes photos and emojis much more than letters and words. Perhaps this is why newcomers to social media prefer Snapchat and its medium over Facebook?
