Critical Analysis of Reading Blog #3 - How to use #(hashtag) effectively

How to use #(hashtag) effectively

Even though the Oxford dictionary officially defined the term "hashtag" ten years ago, hashtags are popular through the use of social media. "The Art of Social Media" which is written by Guy Kawasaki explain how to make hashtags effective.

I have never used hashtags because I do not post much on social media.
Therefore, I am interested in what hashtag is or how to use it. Today, I will analyze hashtags.

First of all, "hashtag" is a word or phrase proceded by the symbol # that classifies or categorizes the accompanying text.

Interestingly, each social media has different characteristics so that how to use hashtags effectively depends on which media to use.

On twitter, it is important to follow the trend (The recommended number of hashtag: 2-3). On Instagram, people tend to share fashionable photos so that they use hashtags in order to get more likes by others (The recommended number of hashtags: 5-15). On the over hand, people who are using Facebook put emphasis on interpersonal connection (The recommended number of hashtags: 1).

Top-Hashtags.com shows the ranking, "Top 100 Hash Tags on Instagram."

As you can see from this ranking, people on Instagram are creative-minded and are likely to connect with as many people as they can.

Moreover, hashtag means tribe, a group which people have similar interests. Therefore, in the tribe, people can communicate with others in high-context so that it can also be a benefit of using hashtags.

Enjoy your life with hashtags!
